How Many Hours Should You Book? Your Handy Guide

At Hygieia Cleaning, we price our services by the hour, which lets you choose how much time you want us to spend and which areas we should prioritize. The number of tasks completed will depend on how many hours you book. For example, booking only two hours typically won’t allow for a thorough clean of a 4-bed house.

Estimated Hours for a Whole-Home Clean

Regular & Once-Off Cleaning

Our Regular Cleaning (or Once-Off Service) addresses primary areas of your home: bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, floors (vacuumed and mopped), and general dusting. The suggested hours below assume a general level of tidiness and moderate cleaning needs, but your requirements may vary.

Deep Cleaning

A Deep Clean includes everything in a regular clean, plus tasks like internal cabinet wipe-downs, oven and rangehood cleaning, and interior window washing. Some homes may also require spot cleaning walls or dusting blinds—tasks known to take extra time. Therefore, deep cleaning hours can vary significantly based on specific requests.

One Cleaner, One Job

The timeframes in this chart reflect single-cleaner hours. In most cases, we assign one cleaner for each booking to maintain consistent quality and accountability. For extensive projects—like a deep clean taking more than six hours—we may send multiple cleaners. If you see “2 hours” listed, for example, that means one cleaner will work for two hours total.

Why More Bedrooms Affect Total Cleaning Time & How Extra Bathrooms Influence Cleaning Duration

Additional bedrooms themselves aren’t necessarily difficult to clean; what often happens is that homes with extra bedrooms tend to have larger shared spaces too (e.g., kitchens, living areas, hallways). A home with five bedrooms usually isn’t just two rooms bigger than one with three bedrooms—it’s often bigger overall, which translates to more cleaning time. Bathrooms are among the most time-consuming areas to clean because they have multiple surfaces and a higher required level of sanitation. Each additional bathroom can add approximately 45 to 60 minutes to a cleaning session, while a powder room (with just a toilet and sink) might add around 20 minutes. Having multiple bathrooms also typically indicates a bigger home, which further increases cleaning time in other zones.

Other Factors That Affect Time Needed

Comparing Costs & Services Fairly

If you’re switching from a flat-fee cleaning service to our hourly model, think about the total cleaning time you used to get. For instance, if you previously paid a higher rate for two cleaners, you might need to book a longer block of hours with a single cleaner to match that level of service. For example, if two cleaners once worked for two hours (totalling four hours of labor), you’d now want a four-hour booking with us to achieve similar results.

Keep in mind that these are general guidelines—your situation may require more or fewer hours.

Why Our Hourly Rate Approach is Your Best Bet

1. Tailored to Your Needs

Hourly rates let you customize the focus and duration. Need only the kitchen and bathroom done? No problem. Want the entire property tackled, top to bottom? Book as many hours as you need.

2. Consistency & Transparency

With hourly billing, you only pay for the exact labor hours you book. If you schedule a 3-hour clean, you get precisely 3 hours of dedicated cleaning, so you know exactly what to expect.

3. Quality Over Speed

Because we bill by the hour, our cleaners aren’t racing against a flat rate. They have the time to be thorough, giving every area the attention it deserves—whether it’s a weekly refresh or a pre-event deep clean.

4. Clear Costs, No Surprises

You decide how many hours to book and see the cost upfront. Your cleaner will accomplish as much as possible within that time, so there’s no confusion or hidden extras. Flat-fee services sometimes advertise a low price but might charge more later; our approach is honest and straightforward.

5. Better Value Overall

In many instances, an hour-by-hour service can save you as much as 40% compared to certain flat-rate models. If you’d like more details on our cost comparisons, check out our in-depth discussion.

Comprehensive Tasks Guide

Below you’ll find two key sections to help you understand how our cleaning services align with your needs. The first is a comprehensive breakdown of tasks typically included in our different cleaning packages (Regular/Once-Off, Deep, End-of-Lease), based on the reference checklist. The second outlines a sample cleaning routine—what you can expect from us when we arrive and “do our thing.” We encourage you to review these lists, think about the priorities for your property, and let us know if you’d like any additions, removals, or customizations. After all, our goal is to tailor each cleaning to your specific preferences.

C. End-of-Lease Clean

Sometimes referred to as a Bond Clean or Move-Out Clean, this aims to meet real-estate or landlord requirements and help secure your bond return.

Everything in a Deep Clean, plus more specialized tasks, for example:

    • Walls Spot Clean (removal of scuffs, marks; deeper effort if needed)
    • Detailed cleaning inside drawers, cupboards, and closets (if requested by the tenancy agreement)
    • Additional attention to internal windows, frames, and tracks
    • Thorough cleaning of any outdoor area/balcony (optional, depends on lease specifics)

Because every rental agreement differs, we work with you (and often the landlord/real estate’s checklist) to ensure all standard requirements are met.

2. Our Typical Cleaning Routine: “Leave It to Us”

Below is an average example of how our team usually proceeds when they arrive at your property. Of course, we can modify any step to better suit your needs:

1. Initial Walk-Through

  • Upon arrival, we briefly tour your home to confirm any specific requests or priority This is also a great time to highlight items or rooms that need special attention.

2. Declutter & Prep

  • We remove obvious clutter, empty bins, and gather cleaning supplies. If there’s laundry or dishes to address (as agreed in your booking), we set that up to run while we tackle other tasks.

3. Start with High-Traffic Areas

  • Kitchens and bathrooms usually come first. We disinfect surfaces, scrub sinks, sanitize toilet bowls, and wipe down In the kitchen, we polish counters, sanitize stovetops, and handle the exterior of appliances.

4. Move to Living & Sleeping Areas

  • We dust furniture, décor, and electronics, ensuring surfaces are free of dust or smudges. We straighten cushions, tidy any scattered items, and wipe down mirrors and glass fixtures.

5. Floors & Carpets

  • We then sweep, vacuum, or mop If there are rugs or carpets, we make sure to vacuum thoroughly under furniture and in corners. Hardwood or tiled floors get a suitable mop treatment, leaving them streak-free.

6. Detail Checks

  • Depending on your selected service (Regular, Deep, or End-of-Lease), we’ll handle extra tasks like cleaning skirting boards, wiping interior cabinets, or removing cobwebs from high corners.
  • If you’ve requested blind dusting, we’ll address each slat
  • For microwaves and ovens, we’ll clean them to your specified level (quick wipe or deep degrease).

7. Final Inspection

  • Once all tasks are complete, we do a quick walk-around to confirm each area meets our high standards—and yours. We’ll also invite you to check that nothing was missed.

8. Wrap Up

  • We remove trash and replace liners, gather our cleaning tools, and ensure your home is left in pristine condition. If you’re not around, we lock up and secure your property as instructed.
